This article is about the novel, for the cult, see The Brethren (cult).

The Brethren is a law-related novel by American author John Grisham, published in 2000. Three former judges incarcerated in a federal minimum security prison develop a scam to extort wealthy gay men. With the help of their lawyer, Trevor Carson, they transfer their ill-gotten money to a secret Bahaman bank account. Unknowingly, their scheme hooks the front-running candidate for President of the United States.

An earlier book by American journalist Bob Woodward, also called The Brethren (1979), is a nonfiction look behind the scenes

of the United States Supreme Court during Warren Burger's years as Chief Justice of the United States.
