Servant was a Christian rock group based out of the Highway Missionary Society in Grants Pass, Oregon, which eventually became The Servant Community in Cincinnati, Ohio. It has its origins in the same Milwaukee Jesus Movement community as Resurrection Band and Jesus People USA, and maintained a longer relationship with founder Jim Palosaari. However, the band was not formed in Milwaukee, but rather in Victoria, British Columbia after the Milwaukee community had divided into four different traveling teams. Using a variety of styles, from folk rock to new wave, they were known for calling the Christian church to repent and turn back to social justice and caring for the poor. Unusually for

a rock band, and due to Jim's extensive theatre background, they often instituted short skits into their gigs on stage. Started in 1976 and lasting 12 years, the group toured extensively, recorded 6 albums, and became one of the most important and influential Christian rock groups. They gave Petra their start when Petra opened for them on tour, and were the first Christian rock group to use lasors or an extensive light show.
