Joy Elizabeth Williams is a Christian music singer and songwriter who lives in California. She had planned on a career in journalism or family therapy but instead signed with Reunion Records and released her self-entitled debut project in July 2001, attracting much attention and soon afterward went touring, all while attending high school. In 2002 she released her second album, By Surprise, and in 2005 her hit song "Hide", from the album Genesis, topped 7 radio charts in her genre.
BackgroundJoy Williams grew up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where her father, Roger Williams, served as the executive director of Mt. Hermon Christian Conference Center. During high school, Williams excelled and was often labeled as an overachiever. She maintained a 4.0 GPA while also filling the roles of varsity athlete and student body president. At the age of 14, Williams was offered a recording contract. Yet, she turned down the opportunity for a normal childhood. When a second recording contract was presented to her two years later, she signed. After putting the pen to paper, Williams experienced a hectic senior year of high school, recording her debut album and performing on two major tours while still in high school. On June 12th, 2004, she married Nate Yetton in the Redwoods of California. In 2005, she attempted to venture into mainstream radio with her single We, which received little attention.
