Chosen People Ministries is an evangelistic organization of Messianic Judaism, an outgrowth of the ministry of Leopold Cohn. Cohn was born Itsak Leib Jaszovics in Berezna in eastern Hungary. He claimed to have become a Rabbi in Hungary, and subsequently emigrated to the United States to investigate his beliefs in Jesus as the Messiah.

David Max Eichhorn, in Evangelizing the American Jew (Middle Village, NY: Jonathan David, 1978), states that he was in fact a saloonkeeper convicted of forgery who escaped to the United States under an assumed name (Cohn) and profession (Rabbi). Cohn founded Chosen People Ministries in Brooklyn, New York, in 1894 as the American Board of Missions to the Jews. However, the current president of Chsoen People Ministries, Dr. Mitch Glaser has reviewed these accusations against Rabbi Cohn and based upon the evidence and court records is convinced that Rabbi Cohn was being defamed by members of the Jewish community who opposed his work. None of the allegations were

proven and certainly Leopold Cohn was an ordained Rabbi and was not guilty of the above mentioned activities. His personal testimony can be found in the book, To An Ancient People, which is available through Chosen People Ministries.

Chosen People Ministries is a member of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities, the Christian Stewardship Association, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, and the Interdenominational Foreign Mission Association of North America. Headquarters are in New York City.

Chosen People Ministries has staff in 12 countries around the world and starts Messianic Centers and congregations as the main focus of their work. The message of the organization is very simple - the staff believe that Jesus, Yeshua, is the Messiah of Israel and that a Jew who accepts Jesus as their Messiah is still Jewish. This is why Chosen People staff encourage Jews who believe in Jesus to continue oin their identification as Jews, to observe Jewish holidays and to support the nation of Israel.
