Campus Crusade for Christ is an interdenominational Christian mission organization, focusing on evangelism and discipleship in over 190 countries around the world. Started in 1951 at the University of California, Los Angeles by Bill Bright, Campus Crusade has now branched out to many different ministries beyond its initial focus on universities and many other fields of ministry. Its mission is "to win students to Christ, build them in their faith, and send them out to win and build others." The parent organization is known as Campus Crusade for Christ International, and the fields of ministry include the military, high schools, families, national and international leaders and athletes. In many parts of Europe it is known as Agape Europe. .In other countries the university ministry is known under different names. In a number of countries, such as

Poland, New Zealand and Australia it is known as Student Life, e.g., Student Life Australia. The International Headquarters are located in Orlando, Florida, USA.

Campus Crusade is responsible for the distribution of the 1979 movie JESUS. They are also the publishers of Four Spiritual Laws, also known as the "Knowing God Personally Booklet" .

Campus Crusade gained a high rating in Money magazine's rating of charities in the December, 1993, issue. On page 134 Money reports: "The most efficient religious group, Campus Crusade for Christ International, which spends an average of 84% of its income on programs, has long since moved from college out into the world." It then goes on to describe Campus Crusade's growing number of outreaches and staff members.

Criticisms

While generally considered a positive outlet for Christian fellowship, and in line with widely accepted Christian doctrine, both the parent organization and local campus chapters have been under fire for various practices.

Individual campus ministries have recently fallen under heavy criticism for intimidating tactics and refusal to cooperate with other religious organizations, Christian and non-Christian, on their respective campuses.

Notable cases have occurred at Miami University, where many claim the group has "taken over campus" At Ohio Wesleyan University, on the other hand, both students and the administration have expressed severe criticism of the organization and complained of being bullied by the ministry's members.te their shared beliefs. The organization as a whole is a well-respected ministry within the Christian community and students across the world value their participation.

Staff

Staff of Campus Crusade for Christ raise their own income from supporters who donate to the organization on behalf of a particular staff member. The level of support a staff worker must raise is determined primarily by the staff worker's cost of living. This is determined by the staff members' life situation (single, married, with children etc.) and ministry location, rather than position or ability.

Successfully raising support is sometimes seen as confirmation from God that the staff worker should be on staff. If the staff worker's support level drops below a set proportion of their nominal total, they are required to stop their ministry immediately and raise support to cover the shortfall. (There have been cases where this policy was broken when the staff member's usefulness to the organization was considered to outweigh their need.)

Married staff members are treated as a team; balancing family life and ministry life is a significant priority of Campus Crusade. Staff members with children, particularly the mothers, are discouraged from scheduling as much ministry activity in order to care for their children. In practice this means that if single staff members marry, their new spouse must join staff also if not on staff already, otherwise the existing staff member must resign. In some times and places, there has been a policy against staff dating students.
