Bethany Dillon (born September 22, 1988 in Bellefontaine, Ohio) is a young Christian Contemporary music artist. Her self-titled debut album, released in 2004, was the highest selling female solo debut album for the year and attracted GMA nominations for both Female Vocalist and New Artist of the Year. The radio friendly All I Need single received a great deal of airplay worldwide, and reached the coveted number one position on the US charts. Despite a heavy touring schedule, Bethany Dillon released her second album titled Imagination in August 2005 – the CD which prompted CCM Magazine to label her as the ‘future’ of contemporary Christian music. Speaking about her inspiration for the album, Dillon says her journey over the past year has only increased her hunger for spiritual redemption. “After a year of travelling, I had seen things in the world and in myself, both good and bad that I had never noticed before,” Dillon said. “I was struggling daily with pride and insecurity, homesickness and loneliness, with the burden of picking up my cross and following Jesus. This journey produced a new hunger for redemption in me.” Award winning producer Ed Cash teamed up with Bethany Dillon yet again to produce this eleven track album, all of which was written or co-written by this 17-year old girl who writes with maturity well beyond her years. Creative growth is evident on this sophomore release, and a couple of tracks stray from the pop formula that has catapulted Dillon to the top of the charts. Airplane, a whimsical tune about experiencing God in the simplest of situations, and New, a song inspired by the tale of creation within C. S. Lewis's novel The Magician's Nephew, are both prime examples of Dillon's accomplished songwriting skills. It is the title track however for which Dillon saves her best work, and it is a fitting means by which to conclude the album. A reserved ballad provides an ideal platform for the best lyrical exploration of the CD as Dillon sings, “Setting out with such righteous indignation, But now I’m at your feet, Could you look at me with some imagination?” Dillon’s musical career began at the young age of 12, recording an independent album that ended up in the hands of EMI executive Brad O’Donnell. A meeting ensued and O’Donnell recalls that, “I could tell that Bethany possessed a rare honesty and genuineness as an artist. She had no agenda. That day, she was just ‘being'. I knew that hers was a higher calling, and EMI wanted to be a part of that.” Bethany also appears on the recently released Music inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia soundtrack, and track one from '‘Imagination'’ will feature in the upcoming film ‘'Dreamer: Inspired by a true story’'. Dillon is currently touring as part of the Restored tour, featuring Jeremy Camp. Beth’s sister Kate is married to fellow Sparrow Records recording artist Shawn McDonald. Discography
